When Knowing Isn’t Enough
Have you ever read something in a book, nodded along, and thought, “Yes, that makes sense” - only to find that in the heat of the moment, it doesn’t actually help?
For years, that was my experience.
I had shelves of self-help books, countless journal entries, and hours of podcasts under my belt. I knew so much in my head about anxiety, mindset, and wellbeing.
But when panic rose or my mind felt out of control, all that head knowledge seemed to vanish.
It wasn’t until I came across The Three Principles that I began to notice something different.
Head Knowledge vs. Heart Insight
Head knowledge is logical, learned, and memorised. It’s helpful, but it doesn’t always reach us when we need it most. Anxiety doesn’t respond to facts or strategies — it feeds off fear in the moment.
Heart insight, on the other hand, feels different. It’s not something you learn, it’s something you see. It comes with a felt sense of relief, like a deep exhale. An insight shifts how you experience life without needing constant effort or reminders.
The Power of Insight
One of the most important insights I had was realising:
“I am not broken. I’m simply experiencing thought in the moment.”
That landed in my heart, not my head. And from then on, anxiety looked different. I didn’t need to keep repeating affirmations or strategies. Something in me had truly shifted, and it stayed with me.
That’s the beauty of insight: once you’ve seen it, you can’t unsee it. It becomes part of how you live.
Staying Open to Insight
So how do we move from knowing in the head to feeling in the heart? The truth is, we can’t force it - but we can create the conditions for insight to land.
Here are a few ways to stay open:
Slow down: Insight often arrives in quiet moments, not in the rush of overthinking.
Stay curious: Instead of demanding answers, wonder gently: “What else might I see here?”
Be present: The more we notice life unfolding in the now, the easier it is for truth to show itself.
Beyond Information to Transformation
You don’t need more techniques or endless information to overcome anxiety. What you need is to see something fresh - and that comes from the inside-out.
The Three Principles point us back to this deeper wisdom.
They remind us that lasting change isn’t about managing thoughts with strategies.
It’s about realising, in your heart, that peace of mind has been there all along.
Head knowledge is useful, but heart insight transforms.
The next time you feel anxious, remember: you don’t need more information.
You need to remember the wisdom that’s already within you, waiting to be seen.
